The concise book of muscles

The Concise Book of Muscles has been written for the student and early practitioner of anatomy, massage / bodywork, physical therapy, chiropractic, medicine, physiotherapy, or any other health-related field. Containing full-colour illustrations, it is a compact reference guide, clearly identifying all the major muscles, showing the origin, insertion, action, and innervation of each muscle. The book also uniquely illustrates examples of stretching and strengthening exercises for each muscle, allowing the reader to develop an understanding of the mechanics of movement.

The book is designed in quick reference format to offer useful information about the main skeletal muscles that are central to bodywork, anatomy, sport, dance, and exercise. Each muscle section is colour-coded for ease of reference. Enough detail is included regarding each muscle's origin, insertion and action commensurate with the requirements of the student and practitioner of bodywork, movement therapies, and the movement arts. It aims to present that information accurately, in a particularly clear and user-friendly format; especially as anatomy can seem heavily laden with technical terminology.

Amanda Williams (Illustrator) graduated from Middlesex University with a first-class honours degree in Graphic Design (Scientific Illustration). Since then she has worked as a freelance illustrator for various publishers, including Harcourt Brace, Elsevier Science, and The Royal College of Surgeons.

Chris Jarmey, M.C.S.P., D.S., M.R.S.S., qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist in 1979. He also studied acupuncture and osteopathy in the early 1980's. He is the author of several best-selling books, primarily on Eastern medical practices and bodywork methods. Chris teaches body mechanics, bodywork therapy, and anatomy extensively throughout Europe.
